Clean the lint screen
Remove lint before every load. If the screen looks coated, follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. A damaged screen should be replaced with the correct part rather than used without a filter.
Give clothes room to tumble
A tightly packed drum makes it harder for warm air to move through the load. Try a smaller load with similar fabrics and use the cycle recommended on the clothing labels and appliance controls.
Check the vent path you can see
Do not disconnect gas lines, open the cabinet, or reach into a moving fan or vent assembly.
- Look behind the dryer for a crushed or sharply bent exhaust duct.
- While the dryer is running normally, check whether air is flowing from the outdoor vent opening.
- Keep the outdoor opening clear of visible lint or debris.
Know the warning signs
Stop using the dryer if you notice a burning smell, smoke, scorching, unusual heat, sparking, or a damaged power cord. If airflow remains weak or clothes stay damp after the basic checks, the vent system or dryer needs professional attention.
